IonQ announced on September 23 that its Superion 256 quantum computer will become the first quantum processing unit installed at Nvidia's Accelerated Quantum Research Center (NVAQC), with installation scheduled for next year.
The Superion 256 will connect to an Nvidia GB200 NVL72 system through Nvidia's NVQLink technology, with workloads orchestrated via Nvidia's CUDA-Q open platform. IonQ says the Superion 256 is available to order now, with first customer deliveries expected in 2027.
IonQ and Nvidia said joint research at NVAQC will target portfolio optimization, risk modeling for financial services, materials science, and computational chemistry for drug discovery.
Nvidia's Timothy Costa said the goal is to integrate quantum processors with AI infrastructure using open models and software, adding: "Every supercomputer will become a quantum supercomputer."
IonQ CEO Niccolo de Masi said deploying the Superion 256 into environments like NVAQC "will lead to developments allowing our partners to benefit from our scalable architecture," pointing to the company's roadmap toward 10,000 qubits and full fault tolerance.
