Applied Digital Secures Up to 1GW of Power in Finland, Its First Site Outside the US

GlobeNewswireOct 6, 2026

Applied Digital announced it has entered into an agreement providing access to up to 1 gigawatt (GW) of potential power capacity in Finland, the company's first development opportunity outside the United States. Applied Digital plans to build a large-scale AI Factory campus on the site capable of scaling to as much as 1GW, with initial power availability anticipated beginning in 2028.

The company says it has begun marketing the site and is in discussions with "leading global hyperscale customers." Applied Digital characterized the move as a measured first step rather than a shift in strategy, noting that its near-term development priorities remain centered on its US portfolio.

Why Finland

Chairman and CEO Wes Cummins said Finland "stood out because many of the characteristics that have supported our success in North Dakota are also present in the Nordics — a favorable climate, an attractive energy ecosystem, strong connectivity and the ability to develop at meaningful scale." He added that the move is "a deliberate first step, not a change in our strategy," with future investment tied to customer demand, commercial milestones, and regulatory requirements.

"Our ability to scale is not about planting flags in as many markets as possible," Cummins said. "It is about identifying exceptional sites and applying the same disciplined model repeatedly... Finland gives us the opportunity to begin proving that platform can travel."
